What makes life worth living?

For centuries, great thinkers have posed the question, “What makes life worth living, and how can we create more meaning, joy, and find our purpose in this lifetime?”

I remember my mother’s voice telling me not to be an Aadu (a goat) that follows blindly, but to become a leader of my own life. I did not understand the significance of her words then.

Being the leader of my life means creating my path and taking charge of my direction. However, I wasn’t always this bold. As a child, I was a follower, strictly adhering to rules and seeking guidance from others, unaware of my capabilities. I remember crying when my cousin joked about an approaching storm, reflecting my anxiety growing up in a dysfunctional environment without a father figure. Fortunately, my mother was strong and wise, with an intellect free from pettiness. When I feel lost, I often ask myself, “What would she have done?” Her courage and generosity were remarkable. I am grateful to have been her daughter and believe there’s a reason for everything—a karmic thread connecting us all, where the debts of our past lives are fulfilled.

My purpose is clearer now. Learning resilience over decades, leaning into my inner strength, and understanding the subconscious have shaped who I am today. Grounded in my values and eager to learn, the spirituality I grew up with has become a part of me. It makes learning lighter and understanding more profound.

Oh, how I delight in the everyday joys, the heartbreaking beauty of a full moon hanging low in the sky, silent and mysterious, suggesting a promise of some kind,… and the sweet kiss of my dog’s affection!

I’ve come to accept that sorrow and grief are simply part of this beautiful unfolding. Today I lead with my heart. I lead, Yes, I am a leader. I create my path.
